Hey Camille! Can you tell us where you’re from?
I’m from Athens, Ga (not Greece 😂 ) everyone always thinks that if I don’t say Georgia.
My mom is Cuban & my dad is Arabic & Finnish! ☺️ The Cuban side has definitely influenced my music & with that has given me more confidence about my culture because as a kid, I was really timid and insecure about that because of the area I was going to school in at the time. I’ve embraced it now & one of my songs “No Soy Menos” is about embracing whoever you are, especially being a woman. I’m actually not fluent in Spanish so I had to learn some more Spanish for some of it, which was hard but fun!
I might have some Arabic sounding surprises in some of my new stuff 😉
Demi Lovato’s empowering & sassy lyrics in a lot of her music has really helped influence a lot of my writing. I’ve always looked up to Joan Jett & her music and she’s a total badass, but is also so down to earth.
We notice that your music is mostly composed of upbeat powerful and feel-good tracks such as 90s Kids and Summer With You. Where do you gather your inspiration from?
First & foremost, my boyfriend Chris. He produces my music & we both have a passion for music, so I may come up with the lyrics & melody on guitar (like “Summer With You”) & he’ll turn it into something totally unique but exactly the sound it needed to become that style. I also get inspiration from me just wanting to make people feel good. Whether it’s a good day or a bad day, my song is hopefully going to make them smile more, dance or sing, feel more confident about themselves, or hopefully, all three. Being positive & empowering helps other people not give up & feel confident in their skin too, especially with music. Music just brings out the feels for everybody—there’s no denying it.
I’m trying to really be an inspiration for other women to
just be who you are. “Lollipop”, “No Soy Menos” & “Fighters” are serious
girl power songs. Play at least one of those one day & just think about how
awesome you are! You got this!
Also, don’t forget where you come from and about just having fun with your music. That’s what “90s Kid” is all about. I just started thinking about a good memory when I was a kid and thought “I’ll have some fun with this” and related some old memories as a kid that some other 90s kids had ☺️ It’s just about reminiscing on the old days. We wanted the song to sound so 90s in itself so you feel like you’re going through a time machine when you listen to it.
Are you currently working on any new music? What can we
expect from you in the future?
I definitely have a lot of new music coming out that I feel like will really break some barriers that I haven’t done yet. My singles “Summer With You” & “Need You” definitely started that. Expect to hear some acoustic versions of some of my music & stuff similar to my recent singles, but also different. You’ll just have to wait ☺️ Definitely still something you’ll want to dance & vibe to since I love to dance (I swear that’s why my music is the way it is 💃🏻 )
We’re still working on the new singles coming up. We like to grind on some songs, record at least a rough draft, Chris starts the process and I’ll chime in or hum in with some ideas if I have any that we could add in by recording or through production. We kind of like our sound to have some unexpected genre bending influence. We listen to it a lot then give it some time then listen to it with different speakers and places. We go over it over and over again. It’s a lot of listening and focus, but I think the sound & writing has improved so much. So we definitely have done a little bit of re-listening a few times so we may tweak some of those, but not necessarily.
Any message for the Female Indie Musicians community?
I’m definitely a hypocrite for this, but never ever get
down on yourself as an artist. To do that, never be down on yourself—period.
It’s easier said than done, but find that thing that makes you want to be bold,
makes you feel beautiful, & then go write the best song you’ve written and
don’t be afraid to tell someone that it is.
