We had a chance to chat with Haley Tibbs, a singer-songwriter from Phoenix, AZ.

Hi Haley! You released your single, “Ego” a few months ago, what was your inspiration behind the song?

This song is about the burdens of someone having a big ego. The song was inspired by individuals who have big egos but have little to no reason to even have them and their effects on them and those around them.  There is no winning with egotistical people no matter how much you can offer.  Having a big ego can not only hurt the one with a big ego and damage their life, but it can also hurt people they come in contact with.  This song explains that.  This is different from being successful and confident.  It is important to know the difference between confidence and ego.

Did you encounter challenges with recording this track during the pandemic?

I did not have trouble recording during the pandemic.  I record almost everything on my own so it wasn’t any different than any of my other songs.  I am a solo artist so I also do not have to worry about others doing their part.  I record, write and create my music by myself.  I think 2020 was a great year to create new music while we can’t do live shows!

We also love your song, “Go Up.” The music video was very striking and emotional - can you tell us more about the making of the video?

Go Up is my favorite project I have ever put out.  It is comprised of 5 different songs and the cover song is Go Up. The video for the song was made with a local videographer.  We worked together to create the story of the song and how we would present that visually.  We went through several iterations, but it was a very fun process and I am very happy with the end result of the songs and the videos.

This song is about losing something big / going through a bad experience and being able to grow and “Go Up” from that experience.  It helps show that anyone can create something good from any situation with enough hard work. It is a very happy and uplifting song!

For those who are just about to check your music out, which three songs should they listen to first?

I have a lot of different styles to my music, so I have something for just about anyone.  It is hard to pick my favorite songs, but here are my favorites at the moment

Go Up (The Album)

Say (Original and Remix)

Right In Front Of Me (single)

How would you describe your music's genre?

I have played many different genres in my life and that definitely comes across in my music online. I like to be versatile in my music but make sure to have an overall constant similar vibe.

I started in country music which is where Insane came from!

I then went to Pop and created Right In Front of Me.

I stayed in indie / pop for a while, but then had the opportunity to try EDM music.  I never knew about or really listened at all to EDM music so this was very different for me, but it was a great experience and I really like the EDM songs I was able to make!

The EDM songs of mine are my Remixes of Say, Go Up, and Listen as well as an original song called Into You.

I have also done Rock which definitely could be my favorite.  This was with Last Summer Rain.

Overall I have a lot of Genres, but I always make sure I have a similar vibe in all my music.

Will you have any music releases anytime soon?

Yes! I have been working very hard in 2020 to create so many new songs.  I cannot wait to release them. They will be coming in 2021.

Last but not the least, any messages for the Female Indie Musicians Community?

I am so happy to be a part of the Female Indie Musicians Community.  It is comprised of so many talented females from all over the world.  I have found so much great music and people through this group, and I cannot wait to see what else comes from it!

Hey Camille! Can you tell us where you’re from? I’m from Athens, Ga (not Greece 😂 ) everyone always thinks that if I don’t say Georgia. My mom is Cuban & my dad is Arabic & Finnish! ☺ ️ The Cuban side has definitely influenced my music & with that has given me more confidence about my culture because as a kid, I was really timid and insecure about that because of the area I was going to school in at the time. I’ve embraced it now & one of my songs “No Soy Menos” is about embracing whoever you are, especially being a woman. I’m actually not fluent in Spanish so I had to learn some more Spanish for some of it, which was hard but fun! I might have some Arabic sounding surprises in some of my new stuff 😉 Who are your biggest influences from the music industry?  Demi Lovato’s empowering & sassy lyrics in a lot of her music has really helped influence a lot of my writing. I’ve always looked up to Joan Jett & her music and she’s a total badass, but ...

Female Indie Musicians had the pleasure to chat with Angela Davis, an independent R&B musician from Detroit, Michigan. Hi Angela! Can you share with us some of your earliest memories of music? Some of my earliest music memories are listening in awe of my uncle Calvin playing and singing when he came to visit the family during the holidays. I was around 3 years old and after seeing and hearing him, I knew I wanted to sing too. I also remember singing songs by some of my favorite R&B artists (Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Stephanie Mills) over and over again in my room. I was determined to become a good singer I joined Glee club in 5th grade (despite being terribly shy). Best decision I could've made because it helped me break out of my shell. What is it like being a musician in Detroit? Detroit is an amazing city full of some of the most talented vocalists and musicians in the world! I love the music community and culture. Over the years I have made many conne...

Female Indie Musicians had the pleasure of doing a virtual interview with pop rock singer-songwriter Maini Sorri !                                                         Photos by Johan Zetterlund Hi Maini! We noticed that you have Nordic roots. How does this influence your music? I started to compose music when I was a child and lived in Finland. I sat at the piano and piano pieces just came to me. My piano teacher recorded them and appreciated them. I remember that my grandmother often asked me to play them all. My mother was also very supportive. My father had also an important impact. For him it was not enough that I could play without anyone teaching me how to do it. He said that I must take piano lessons. I think it opened a door for me that lead to my Bachelor of Arts and to a...
